Executions are carried out by the state, which means each state can sentence someone to death by any means that they see fit, provided that it meets constitutional requirements. Many supporters of capital punishment cite retribution as being a justification for the death penalty; however, no matter what the circumstance, murder is never justified. It has been prevalent in the United States, Asia and Middle Eastern countries. Debates ranging from human rights to abortion provoke disputes among many countries.
